Unique Dining Tables : Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

Clueless about buying dining tables? Here are a few suggestions to get you started.   When deciding on contemporary unique dining tables to buy, consider the following factors:

  1. The number of people who’ll be using it

Do you live alone, or with a family? Round tables are great for families as it gives everyone “equal” seating power and make conversations easier, as compared to rectangular or square-shaped dining tables. For those who live alone or with just their spouse or partner, however, a small round table or the usual farmhouse type of table will suffice.

  2. The mood and vibe of your dining area

Dining tables are usually the focal point of any dining room, so yours has to be one that blends well and can set the ambiance, making it easier for you to shop for other pieces to complement it. Some contemporary dining tables may look too uninviting, cold, and austere; soften the look with see-through, translucent chairs (normally made of hard, durable plastic) — they’ll keep tight spaces from looking too cluttered and can even lighten the mood of a dark-colored table.

Another great option is the modern pedestal table. Elegant and versatile, it pairs well with practically every type of chair (and stool) and easily complements the style of any dining room.

3. The height

Most modern unique dining tables have a height of around 29 to 30 inches. Make sure that the chairs you match them with are proportional to your chosen table’s height — you don’t want the chairs to be dwarfing your dining table, much less look tiny next to it. Likewise, if you happen to come across a table with a more diminutive height, keep the rule of proportion in mind: Not only will the mismatched look backfire on you, but sitting and eating will be uncomfortable as well. For a foolproof solution, use stools with a nice upholstery — they’re sure to giving your dining area a stylish kick.

  4. Your personality

Are you a neat freak who goes nuts at the sight of stains and rings on your dining table? You might be better off picking one that’s like fine wine — meaning, it gets better with age. A top choice would be the rustic and quaint farmhouse table — you can update the look and avoid the old-fashioned aura by matching it with modern chairs. Forget about unsealed marble-topped dining tables — these are more prone to telltale signs of stains and rings, no matter how much you clean, scrub, or varnish. To find out more please go to our luxury dining tables webpage.
